Background: The incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is higher in Indonesia than in high-income countries. In order to reduce the incidence of the disease, a protocol on preventing, screening and treating ROP was published in Indonesia in 2010. To assist the practical implementation of the protocol, meetings were held in all Indonesia regions, calling attention to the high incidence of ROP and the methods to reduce it. In addition, national health insurance was introduced in 2014, making ROP screening and treatment accessible to more infants. Objective To evaluate whether the introduction of both the guideline drawing attention to the high incidence of ROP and national health insurance may have influenced the incidence of the disease in Indonesia. Setting Data were collected from 34 hospitals with different levels of care: national referral centres, university-based hospitals, and public and private hospitals. Methods: A survey was administered with questions on admission numbers, mortality rates, ROP incidence, and its stages for 2016-2017 in relation to gestational age and birth weight. Results: We identified 12 115 eligible infants with a gestational age of less than 34 weeks. Mortality was 24% and any stage ROP 6.7%. The mortality in infants aged less than 28 weeks was 67%, the incidence of all-stage ROP 18% and severe ROP 4%. In the group aged 28-32 weeks, the mortality was 24%, all-stage ROP 7% and severe ROP 4%-5%. Both mortality and the incidence of ROP were highest in university-based hospitals. Conclusions: In the 2016-2017 period, the infant mortality rate before 32 weeks of age was higher in Indonesia than in high-income countries, but the incidence of ROP was comparable. This incidence is likely an underestimation due to the high mortality rate. The ROP incidence in 2016-2017 is lower than in surveys conducted before 2015. This decline is likely due to a higher practitioner awareness about ROP and national health insurance implementation in Indonesia. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2021. |

The function of the cerebral cortex essentially depends on the ability to form functional assemblies across different cortical areas serving different functions. Here we investigated how developmental hearing experience affects functional and effective interareal connectivity in the auditory cortex in an animal model with years-long and complete auditory deprivation (deafness) from birth, the congenitally deaf cat (CDC). Using intracortical multielectrode arrays, neuronal activity of adult hearing controls and CDCs was registered in the primary auditory cortex and the secondary posterior auditory field (PAF). Ongoing activity as well as responses to acoustic stimulation (in adult hearing controls) and electric stimulation applied via cochlear implants (in adult hearing controls and CDCs) were analyzed. As functional connectivity measures pairwise phase consistency and Granger causality were used. While the number of coupled sites was nearly identical between controls and CDCs, a reduced coupling strength between the primary and the higher order field was found in CDCs under auditory stimulation. Such stimulus-related decoupling was particularly pronounced in the alpha band and in top–down direction. Ongoing connectivity did not show such a decoupling. These findings suggest that developmental experience is essential for functional interareal interactions during sensory processing. PURPOSE: To analyze the risk and benefit of high-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplantation (HDCT-SCT) treatment in patients with advanced retinoblastoma. DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search from 4 online databases, including PubMed, Scopus, EBSCO, and Cochrane was done for original studies evaluating the use of HDCT followed by SCT in the treatment of patients with advanced retinoblastoma. The last search was performed on April 15, 2020. RESULTS: A total of 35 studies consisting of 160 patients were considered suitable for inclusion. After HDCT-SCT treatment, 108/160 (67.5%) patients were alive with no evidence of disease at the last follow-up. The incidence of secondary malignancy in our data was also relatively low, which was 16/160 (10%) patients. The side effects were mainly hematological and gastrointestinal toxicities. The prognosis for metastatic cases especially the one to the central nervous system (CNS) remains poor, as shown in our data that 22 of 44 (50%) patients died due to the evidence of disease, and 12 of 44 (27%) patients acquired CNS relapse and died. CONCLUSIONS: HDCT-SCT is a promising treatment option in patients with advanced retinoblastoma. The use of HDCT-SCT in CNS metastases needs to be carefully considered, possibly by adding thiotepa or topotecan to improve tumor control. Further randomized clinical trials are needed to draw firm conclusion regarding its safety and efficacy. Copyright © 2021 Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. Cisplatin has been used for decades for the treatment of ovarian cancer. However, despite its potent anticancer effect, cisplatin’s efficacy as a single agent was inadequate in patients with advanced stage. Curcumin has been shown to sensitize cisplatin activity in several cancer models. However, the low bioavailability of curcumin has limited its anticancer potential. Hence, nano-formulation of curcumin was developed to increase its therapeutic efficacy in ovarian cancer. The objective of this study was to investigate the mechanism of curcumin nanoparticles given in combination with cisplatin in rat ovarian carcinoma induced by dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA). The administration of cisplatin and nanocurcumin resulted in a significant reduction in ovarian tumor volume and weight. Furthermore, there were reduction in expressions of Ki67, TGF-β, PI3K, and Akt phosphorylation. Co-treatment of cisplatin and nanocurcumin also reduced JAK expression, STAT3 phosphorylation, and reduced IL-6 concentrations. Altogether, nanocurcumin, given as a co-treatment with cisplatin has therapeutic potential in ovarian cancer models by inhibiting proliferation through downregulation of PI3K/Akt and JAK/STAT3 signaling pathways. © Copyright © 2021 Sandhiutami, Arozal, Louisa, Rahmat and Wuyung. |

Non-arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) is a disease caused by blood shortages in the artery that supplies the optic disc. Risk factors for NAION are hypertension, obesity, diabetes, dislipidemia, smoking, hypercoagulable state, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. NAION can result from unilateral or bilateral conditions. This study will focus on the identification of important factors that could distinguish characteristics between unilateral and bilateral patients. Random forest method is applied to obtain factors that can consistently distinguish characteristic between each laterality condition. Decision trees and the logistic regression method are added to obtain the visualization of the role of each important factors in the form of classification tree and the risk comparison of patients for experiencing a certain laterality condition by using odds ratios. The important factors based on random forest model are onset, fasting blood glucose levels, high density lipoprotein levels, age, two-hour postprandial glucose levels, and low density lipoprotein levels. Based on the odds ratio, advancing age and high density lipoprotein levels will decrease the risk of patients experiencing bilateral condition; on the other hand, the risk of bilateral condition will increase if other important factors are also increased. © 2021 Journal of Physics: Conference Series. |

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is one of the most commonly used procedures to help pregnancies in couples who have infertility problems. One of the problems of infertility is poor ovarian response and the woman who experiences it is known as poor responder. Poor responders do not have an adequate ovarian response to gonadotropin in ovarian stimulation. The success of fertilization in poor responders tends to be low due to low quantity and is generally followed by low oocyte quality. Gonadotropins consisting of FSH and LH, play a role in follicle development and ovulation. The follicle response in capturing gonadotropins depends on the exact bond between the hormone and its receptor (FSHR and LHR) in the granulosa cells surrounding the oocyte. The purpose of this research is to know the expression level of fshr and lhr mRNA in granulosa cells of poor responders through real-time PCR method which then tested statistically using t-test. Fourteen samples of each poor responders and normal women were used in this research. The results showed insignificant differences between expression level of fshr and lhr mRNA in granulosa cells of poor responders and normal women (p > 0.05). © 2021 Journal of Physics: Conference Series. |

Nasopharyngeal cancer is an abnormal cell growth that develops around the nasopharynx. Treatment of nasopharyngeal cancer patients includes chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Both treatments have side effects in patients. In this study, we will focus on hypothyroidism as a side effect of radiotherapy in the treatment of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer. Hypothyroidism is a condition when the thyroid gland is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone. The main goal of this study is to identify the factors associated with hypothyroidism. To achieve this goal, classification tree and logistic regression methods will be used. Classification tree is used to obtain important variables in the classification of subject classes. Then, logistic regression is used to quantify the risk of variables that appear in the classification tree, hypothyroidism risk factors, and hypothyroidism marker factors. Based on the analysis, it was found that the factors associated in this study were variable symptom, physical sign, smoking habits, gender, age, BMI (Body Mass Index), TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and fT4 (free thyroxine) hormones, and also all items on Zulewski score, except items delayed ankle reflex and slow movements. These factors associated tended to increase the risk of hypothyroidism, except for the fT4 hormone and BMI. © 2021 Journal of Physics: Conference Series. |

Logistic regression models are commonly used to model response variables in the form of categorical variables with several predictor variables. The contribution of the predictor variable to the response variable is expressed through a regression coefficient (β). Therefore, it is necessary to estimate β. This study discusses the estimation of β using the Bayesian method. Bayesian approach utilizes a combination of information from sample data and prior information about the characteristics of the parameters of interest, resulting in the updated information, namely the posterior. Bayesian method thus can overcome the problem if the quality of the sample data does not support observation. Bayesian logistic regression method will be used in analyzing post-radiation nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) patient data, using measurement on Zulewski's score components. Markov Chain Monte Carlo with Gibbs Sampling were used to obtain the sample from posterior distribution. Convergent estimates were obtained, and the result showed that Zulewski's component scores only were not enough to explain the hypothyroidism in NPC. Additional information is required in order to explain the incidence of hypothyroidism in NPC. © 2021 Journal of Physics: Conference Series. |

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a worldwide health problem. COPD has a tendency for exacerbations. Exacerbations are worsening of acute respiratory symptoms resulting in additional therapy. Exacerbations in COPD increase the risk of death. The objective of this study is to determine the prediction model of exacerbations in patients with COPD based on factors affecting exacerbations in patients with COPD at RSCM (Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo). The data used in this study is secondary data from the medical records of patients with COPD in RSCM. The sample was chosen using purposive sampling technique. The samples in this study are 107 patients with COPD. The method used is binary logistic regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that the factors that significantly influence the exacerbations of COPD are breathlessness, history of ICS use, and history of antibiotics use. Appropriate logistic regression model has been obtained. The result indicates that patients with COPD who have breathlessness, have history of ICS use, and have history of antibiotics use are more at risk of exacerbations than those who don't. Accuracy test has been conducted with classification table at cut point 0.5. The prediction model has an accuracy rate of 74.77 %. © 2021 Journal of Physics: Conference Series. |

BACKGROUND: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a carcinoma originating from the surface epithelium of the nasopharynx with the highest incidence in China and South East Asia. Currently, many researchers are developing tumor microenvironment which can be assessed by tumor-infiltrating lymphochyte, and its association with treatment response in several tumors, including NPC. Foxp3, known as a regulatory T cell (Treg) marker, plays a role in the immunoregulatory environment of tumor cells and can be used as a prognostic factor. The relationship between Foxp3 expression and treatment response is considered as one of the factors affecting the prognosis of NPC. AIM: This study aims to determine the relationship between Foxp3 expression and treatment response in NPC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was done to analyze the association between Foxp3 and treatment response in NPC. This study included 60 samples who were diagnosed with non-keratinizing NPC at the Department of Anatomical Pathology, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia/Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital from January 2018 until December 2020. Immunohistochemistry was done to evaluate the expression of Foxp3. Foxp3 expression was evaluated in the intratumoral and peritumoral areas. RESULTS: Among 60 patients, the number of males were more than females (66.7%, 33.3%, respectively) with a ratio of 2:1. There was statistically significant difference between intratumoral and total Foxp3 expression and treatment response (p < 0.05, p = 0.001, respectively); however, no significant differences found between peritumoral Foxp3 expression and treatment response (p = 0.114).
