BACKGROUND Hirschsprung-associated enterocolitis (HAEC) is a life-threatening complication of Hirschsprung’s disease. Studies using animal models on the pathogenesis of HAEC are limited. Thus, this study aimed to establish a rat model of HAEC using topical application of 0.1% benzalkonium chloride (BAC) in the sigmoid colon. METHODS 55 male Sprague Dawley rats aged 10−12 weeks old were separated into 11 groups. The control group (n = 5) was euthanized on day-7, and the other 10 groups (n = 5 in each group) treated with 0.1% BAC in the sigmoid colon for 15 min to induce Hirschsprung’s disease were euthanized on day-7,-10,-12,-14,-17,-19,-21,-23,-25, and-28. The sigmoid colon was excised, fixed in formalin, and sectioned for histological examinations with hematoxylin and eosin staining. The degree of HAEC was compared within all groups. RESULTS Rats that were sacrificed on day-7 to-12 showed the 1st degree or early HAEC, which was most likely caused by BAC application. The 2nd degree of HAEC occurred in rats that were sacrificed on day-14 that showed a macrophage infiltration in the sigmoid colon, thus fulfilled the initial criteria for HAEC (p = 0.0025 versus control). The degree of enterocolitis increased with time, and the highest degree was found in rats that were sacrificed on day-28 (p<0.001 versus control). CONCLUSIONS Topical application of 0.1% BAC for 15 min was successfully produced HAEC model in rats, which was occurred on day-14 after the application. This model provides a useful resource for further research on the pathogenesis of HAEC. © 2021 Authors. |

BACKGROUND Some patients who undergo pelvic floor reconstruction for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) may experience a de novo stress urinary incontinence (SUI) postoperatively. We aimed to investigate the incidence and characteristics of de novo SUI in patients who underwent pelvic floor reconstruction at the national referral hospital in Indonesia. METHODS This cross-sectional study evaluated 108 patients who underwent pelvic floor reconstruction due to POP between January 2016 and December 2017. Per the inclusion criteria, 75 women were enrolled using a consecutive sampling. The incidence of de novo SUI was determined 6–12 months postoperatively using the Indonesian version of the questionnaire for urinary incontinence diagnosis and objectively using the cough stress test during gynecologic examination after a negative preoperative prolapse reduction stress test. RESULTS The average age, parity, body mass index, and years since menopause onset were 56.17 (4.67) years, 3.17 (1.07), 28.58 (5.18) kg/m2, and 12.8 (7.0) years, respectively. De novo SUI was seen in 8.0% (6 of 75) patients at 6–7 months postoperatively, with 3 (50.0%) had severe POP and 3 (50.0%) had a mild POP. Most of these patients (4 of 6, 66.7%) had undergone procedures other than colpocleisis for POP reconstruction. CONCLUSIONS The incidence of de novo SUI after gynecologic surgery for POP at a national referral hospital in Indonesia is 8%. Most patients were aged <60 years, had a parity of <4, were nonobese, were menopausal, and had diabetes. © 2021 Authors. |

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is the most malignant cancer in the head and neck area. According to the stage, the management of NPC includes radiation, chemotherapy, or a combination of both. The standard agent for radiosensitizing chemotherapy is cisplatin. Among the several effects of cisplatin administration, nephrotoxicity raises the most concern, especially in high doses. Acute kidney disease (AKD) is a condition in which an acute kidney injury occurs at >7 days but <90 days. This study aimed to assess whether there is a significant difference in the incidence of AKD between NPC patients who received a cumulative dose of cisplatin up to (≤) 200 mg/m2 and patients who received more than (>) 200 mg/m2. Methods: This is a cohort retrospective study conducted in the radiotherapy unit of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. Medical records of 540 patients from January 2014 to December 2018 were collected and sorted. After sorting, 120 of the records were analyzed. Results: The analysis showed that 38.4% of patients who received >200 mg/m2 cumulative dose of cisplatin experienced AKD, whereas 38.3% of the patients who received ≤200 mg/m2 cumulative dose of cisplatin experienced AKD. Conclusion: This study found that in patients with locally advanced NPC who received cisplatin chemoradiation, there was no significant difference in the incidence of AKD, recovery of renal function, or progression of chronic kidney disease between patients receiving a cumulative dose of cisplatin ≤200 mg/m2 and those receiving >200 mg/m2 . © 2021 Rachman et al. |

Background. Brain tumor is a rare tumor with low incidence. Although it is a rare tumor, the mortality of brain tumor is disproportionately high. Many countries have already published epidemiology of brain tumor. However, the epidemiology of brain tumor in Indonesia remains to be investigated. This article aimed to provide descriptive epidemiology of brain tumor. Methods. The data of brain tumor acquired from Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital from 2014 to 2016. The histopathology classification of primary intracranial tumors was based on WHO classification of CNS tumors 2016 while brain metastasis was classified based on other histopathological types. The vari-ables were analyzed and presented descriptively. Results. There were 316 subjects acquired in this study. Most of the subjects (68%) were women. The mean age of this study was 43.8 (11.7). Most of the subjects (86.1%) had primary histopathology. Lung cancer was the most commonly found brain metastasis in this study (34.1%). Conclusions. This is a pilot study of brain tumor epidemiology in Indonesia. Collaboration with other centers in Indonesia is needed to give a more representative insight of brain tumor in Indonesia. © 2021, Editura Medicala. All rights reserved. |

One of the complications of diabetes that represents a serious threat to world health is Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). High blood sugar levels in people with diabetes can damage the blood vessels in the retina and causing blindness. DR can be detected by examining the fundus image by an ophthalmologist. However, the limited number of ophthalmologists who can analyze fundus image is an obstacle because the number of DR sufferers continues to increase. Therefore, an automated system is needed to help doctors diagnose the disease. Researchers have developed deep learning techniques as Artificial Intelligence (AI) approach to finding DR in fundus images. In this research, we use the Deep Convolutional Neural Networks method with InceptionV3 structure and various optimizers such as the Stochastic Gradient Descent with Momentum (SGDM), Root Mean Square Propagation (RMSprop), and Adaptive Moment Estimation (Adam). The fundus image dataset previously through the augmentation and preprocessing steps to make it easier for the model to recognize the image. The InceptionV3 model with the Adam optimizer gave the best results in detecting DR lesions from the Kaggle dataset with 96% accuracy. This paper also presents a Grad-CAM guided activation map that can describe the position of the suspicious lesion to explain the results of DR detection. © 2021 IEEE. |

BACKGROUND: Type-2 Diabetes mellitus patients have risk of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) ranging from 15% to 25% with morbidity of 5% in the first 12 months, and the mortality rate at 5 years is around 42%. AIM: This research was conducted to study the novelty of a combining Hyaluronic Acid (HA) with Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) to reduce inflammation in DFUs healing through raising granulation index. METHODS: The study used a randomized control trial design, done from July 2019-March 2020 at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital and Koja District Hospital, Jakarta. Subjects were DFU wound area < 40 cm2. At the start of the study all subjects received the same treatment, debridement and standard wound care. Twenty subjects were recruited according to the rule of thumb and were randomly divided into two groups namely topical A-PRF + HA (n = 10) and NaCl 0.9% (control) groups (n = 10). A part of the sample was processed into lysate and stored in -80oC. The rest is applied as a topical therapy in DFU base on intervention (A-PRF+HA or NaCl as a control). We analyzed the inflammation use swab sampling in DFU and analyze use ELISA on day- 3 and day-7. We also measured the wound area by a digital photograph and analyzed using ImageJ at the same time. RESULT: From this research, it was obtained 20 DFU subjects with Wagner 2 classification. We also performed analysis of IL-6 from swab topical DFU. A-PRF+HA group was significantly lower than NaCl (control) from swab DFU on day -3 (p = 0,,049) and day-7 (p = 0.041). In A-PRF+HA group affected on increase epithelialization process/ decrease wound area on day-3 (p = 0.016), day-7 (p = 0.048), and day-14 (p= 0.03 CONSLUSION: With the homogeneous gel formation of A-PRF + HA, it will accelerate the formation of granulation tissue compared to conventional NaCl therapy through reduce inflammation by decrease IL-6 levels. In addition, the combination A-PRF + HA has the effect of accelerating the formation of epithelialization shown by decreasing wound area in intervention group. © 2021 Jordan Journal of Biological Sciences. Oral Health Impact Profile in Edentulous (OHIP-EDENT) is an instrument that measures several aspects of oral health-related quality of life as it relates to edentulous patients. Numerous studies have shown that edentulous has an impact on an individual's quality of life. This instrument aids in detecting the impact of oral health on the quality of life of patients who wear prostheses. The purpose of this study was to develop the OHIP-EDENT in Indonesian version for edentulous patients. The questionnaire was translated into Indonesian, back-translated, pre-tested, and crossculturally adapted. The qualitative interviews were carried out of 12 subjects, 46-77 years old, with diverse levels of formal education. All subjects were undergoing complete or single complete denture treatments at Dental Hospital Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia. Since an expert committee agreed upon the original version, the questionnaire was translated, back-translated, and the outcomes of the qualitative interviews were used to finalize the revised instrument. After the pretesting, the adapted Indonesian OHIP-EDENT can be used as an instrument that is easy to use by edentulous patients undergoing complete or single denture treatments. Further analyses of the questionnaire's psychometric properties are needed to confirm its validity and reliability in target settings. © 2021,Journal of International Dental and Medical Research. All Rights Reserved |

One of the deficit domains of social cognition in schizophrenia patients is emotion recognition. Negative emotion recognition deficits, such as emotional deficits of fear, anger, and sadness already exist in the first episode of schizophrenia. Music as therapy is known to be beneficial for emotional improvement, as well as the emotional experience of patients with schizophrenia. This study was aimed to assess the validity and effectiveness of a music therapy module “emotion recognition” in improving recognition of basic emotions in patients with schizophrenia. This quasi experimental study was conducted at the adult outpatient clinic at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. The research was conducted in 2 steps. The first step to assess the validity of the module by calculate the I-CVI, S-CVI, and CVR of validity test and the second step to implement the music therapy module to the patient. This study assessed 15 subjects of schizophrenic remission patients who attended music therapy for 10 sessions conducted from March 2020 to July 2020. Subjects were assessed pre and post music therapy test results to see the effectivity of the module as seen by improvements in recognition of 5 basic emotions (happy, sad, anger, fear, tender) using the Mcnemar statistical test. The results of the validity test of the module showed the I-CVI of 0.98, S-CVI of 0.95, and CVR of 0.97. There was a significant improvement in the emotional deficits of fear and anger, with an increase in the pre and post music therapy test scores with a p-value 0.016 in the anger emotion and 0.008 in fear emotion, but not significant in the happy, sad, and tender emotions (p-value> 0.05). The emotion recognition music therapy module has good content validity, and effectiveness in emotion recognition of some of the basic emotions of remission schizophrenia patients, especially the emotion recognition of fear and anger. © 2021, Journal of International Dental and Medical Research.
