Systemic fungal infection can disseminate to the skin and require prompt treatment, making early diagnosis very important. This study describes the use of a simple, quick touch biopsy method for the diagnosis of invasive mycoses in patients with AIDS with cutaneous manifestations. We identified fungal infections in 24 of the 29 investigated patients. Histoplasma capsulatum, Cryptococcus neoformans, Talaromyces artroroseus, Aspergillus flavus, Candida tropicalis, and Malassezia sp. were visualized directly in samples obtained from cutaneous lesions and confirmed by culture and molecular examination. The results suggested that touch biopsy is a simple, rapid method for the diagnosis of systemic mycoses with skin dissemination. It can be performed using simple tools and provides quick results, allowing for early intervention with appropriate antifungal therapy. © 2021, International Journal of Technology. In hospitals; transferring patients using hospital beds is time consuming and inefficient. Additionally; the task of frequently pushing and pulling beds poses physical injury risks to nurses and caregivers. Motorized hospital beds with holonomic mobility have been previously proposed. However; most such beds come with complex drivetrain which makes them costly and hinders larger‐scale adoption in hospitals. In this study; a motorized hospital bed that utilizes a swerve drive mechanism is proposed. The design takes into account simplicity which would allow for minimum modification of the existing beds. Two DC motors for steering and propulsion are used for a single swerve drive module. The control of the propulsion motor is achieved by a combination of trajectory planning based on quintic polynomials and PID control. Further; the control performance of the proposed bed was evaluated; and the holonomic mobility of its prototype was successfully demonstrated. An average error of less than 3% was obtained for motion with a constant velocity; however; larger values in the range of 15% were observed for other conditions, such as accelerating and decelerating. © 2021 by the authors. Protocols for isolation, characterization, and transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) have been well established. However, difficulty in finding human leucocyte antigens (HLA)-matched donors and scarcity of HSCs are still the major obstacles of allogeneic transplanta-tion. In this study, we developed a double-layered microcapsule to deliver paracrine factors from non-matched or low-matched HSCs to other cells. The umbilical cord blood-derived hematopoietic progenitor cells, identified as CD34+ cells, were entrapped in alginate polymer and further protected by chitosan coating. The microcapsules showed no toxicity for surrounding CD34+ cells. When CD34+ cells-loaded microcapsules were co-cultured with bare CD34+ cells that have been collected from unrelated donors, the microcapsules affected surrounding cells and increased the percentage of CD34+ cell population. This study is the first to report the potency of alginate-chitosan microcap-sules containing non-HLA-matched cells for improving proliferation and progenitor maintenance of CD34+ cells. © 2021 by the authors. Autologous growth factor (AGF) is a cytokine that has gained medical research interest because it helps improve and accelerate the wound healing process. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is the latest generation of platelet concentrate that can be obtained through a simple procedure known as AGF referencing. One of the most common complications of total laryngectomy (TL) is pharyngocutaneous fistula. To prevent this complication, health care providers must closely monitor the postoperative wound healing process.This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of PRF application in enhancing wound healing after TL. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 2019 to December 2019. We included 20 patients who underwent TL for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. They were divided into two groups (10 patients who received applied autologous PRF around the esophageal stoma during TL and another 10 patients as the control). These patients were observed for 2 weeks postoperatively. In the bivariate analysis performed using the chi-square test, the pain threshold and edema of postoperative wounds in the PRF-treated group demonstrated significant differences compared with those in the control group. PRF application in TL enhanced the postoperative wound healing process, especially with regard to edema and pain. © 2021 Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc.. All rights reserved. |

In Indonesia, dengue has become one of the hyperendemic diseases. Dengue consists of three clinical phases—febrile phase, critical phase, and recovery phase. Many patients have died in the critical phase due to the lack of proper and timely treatment. Therefore, we developed models that can predict the severity level of dengue based on the laboratory test results of the corresponding patients using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Discriminant Analysis (DA). In developing the models, we used a very small dataset. It is shown that ANN models developed using logistic and hyperbolic tangent activation function with 70% training data yielded the highest accuracy (90.91%), sensitivity (91.11%), and specificity (95.51%). This is the proposed model in this research. The proposed model will be able to help physicians in predicting the severity level of dengue patients before entering the critical phase. Furthermore, it will ease physicians in treating dengue patients early, so fatal cases or deaths can be avoided. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. |

Purpose: The use of soy-based infant formula has increased widely in infants with cow's milk allergy (CMA). This study aimed to provide evidence on the growth pattern of CMA infants fed with soy-based infant formula in an Indonesian setting. Methods: A multi-site, intervention study was conducted among full-term and normal birth weight CMA infants. Within six months, the subjects were provided with a soy-based infant formula. Weight, height, and head circumference were measured at baseline, weeks 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24. Adverse events were recorded by scoring atopic dermatitis and symptom-based clinical scores. Results: Based on the World Health Organization growth chart, we found that most of subjects had normal nutritional status for weight-for-age, length-for-age, weight-for-length, and head-circumference-for-age. There were statistically significant differences between baseline and end-line for weight-for-age, length-for-age, weight-for-length, and head circumference-for-age nutritional status. No allergic symptoms or intolerance toward soy formula were observed at the end of the intervention period. Conclusion: These results show that infants fed with soy-based infant formula have a normal pattern of growth.
