Various personal and social factors are known to affect resilience. Empirical evidence remains limited regarding resilience and the personal factors that affect it among undergraduate medical students in an Asian setting. Therefore, this study aims to identify undergraduate medical students’ level of resilience and its relationships to personal factors in Indonesia. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate medical students in years 1–6. Respondents were asked to complete three validated questionnaires: the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) to measure resilience, the Brief-COPE to assess coping mechanisms, and the Big Five Personality Test to measure five personality dimensions. Descriptive and Pearson’s correlation analyses were completed to explore relationships between each variable. Regression analysis was completed to analyze the extent to which coping mechanisms, personality, and academic achievement explained the variation in resilience scores. Results: A total of 1040 respondents completed the questionnaires (a 75.42% response rate). Students in both preclinical and clinical stages had quite good levels of resilience and higher scores on adaptive coping mechanisms than on maladaptive coping mechanisms. Adaptive and maladaptive coping mechanisms, Big Five Personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness), and students’ academic achievement explained 46.9% of students’ resilience scores. Conclusions: Although the resilience scores in this study were comparable to resilience scores among undergraduate medical students in other settings, we found that coping mechanisms, personality traits, and academic performance may predict resilience among medical students. © 2021, The Author(s). As the fourth most populous country in the world, the elderly population in Indonesia is also continuously growing. In 2010, the proportion of the elderly group was merely 5%, and it is expected to increase to 11% in 2035. Understanding the current situation of the adult population in Indonesia would be crucial to prepare for the future aging population. This article analyzed the current socio-demographic status, nutrition status, nutrient intake, and health profile of the current Indonesian adult population through a literature review. The key issues to prepare for healthy aging in Indonesia are summarized. Acknowledging the profile of the adult and senior adult population in Indonesia will provide beneficial information for all stakeholders in preparing Indonesia for a better healthy aging population with improved quality of life. © 2021 by the authors. This study aims to discuss and presents the current role of 3D-printed phantoms and devices for organ-specified applications in urology. The discussion started with a literature search regarding the two mentioned topics within PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and EBSCOhost databases. 3D-printed urological organ phantoms are reported for providing residents new insight regarding anatomical characteristics of organs, either normal or diseased, in a tangible manner. Furthermore, 3D-printed organ phantoms also helped urologists to prepare a pre-surgical planning strategy with detailed anatomical models of the diseased organs. In some centers, 3DP technology also contributed to developing specified devices for disease management. To date, urologists have been benefitted by 3D-printed phantoms and devices in the education and disease management of organs of in the genitourinary system, including kidney, bladder, prostate, ureter, urethra, penis, and adrenal. It is safe to say that 3DP technology can bring remarkable changes to daily urological practices. © 2021 Agung, et al. Acupuncture is a nonpharmacologic therapeutic option for pain management and may be an option for different patients with contraindications for interventional pain management. This review explores this options. Method: This limited review examines the role of acupuncture for managing head-and-neck pain and lower-back pain, according to interventional pain management. Conclusions: Acupuncture at various points, corresponding to the stellate ganglion, which is ST 10 Shuitu, and corresponding to the splanchnic nerve and the facet joint of the lumbar vertebra - which are Ex-B2 paravertebra - can be applied for pain management in the head-and-neck area and in the lower-back area. Angioembolization is one of method to stop the bleeding effectively. This case series aims to analyze whether the bleeding of unstable pelvic fracture is managed by angioembolization to achieve the better functional outcome. Presentation of case: Three cases of haemodynamically unstable pelvic fracture were studied retrospectively and prospectively. A staged approach using damage control orthopaedic surgery was performed. Initial resuscitation began from fluid resuscitation, pelvic wrapping using binder. All patients followed with pelvic external fixation, while 2 patients immediately replaced binder to C-Clamp, and 1 patient with anterior frame. Angioembolization was done to all patients. All patients required definitive internal fixation, while only 2 patients reach the definitive surgery. Finally, we measured the functional outcome of all patients using Hannover Pelvic score, Majeed pelvic score, and Iowa Pelvic score. Discussion: We review some literatures regarding pelvic angioembolization. The previous study suggested to resuscitate patients when the hemodynamic is unstable, the angioembolization procedure is still preferred. The indication and successful definition of this procedure is still unclear, yet it shows decrease of mortality rate of pelvic injury if this procedure starts ahead a schedule. It is a complex and multifactorial problem and regulation of calorie balance involving various humoral and central factors is the main key for managing obesity. In addition, there is an increase in various proinflammatory cytokines and an increase in oxidative stress. There is a need to discover a useful therapy for obesity management. The goal of this review was to examine the literature on electroacupuncture (EA) as a potential therapy. Methods: This review explores the literature on EA, which has proven to be effective for inducing weight loss in experimental human and animal studies. Both continuous and dense-disperse EA waves have their own roles in hormone regulation of obesity using ST 25, CV 9, CV 12, CV 4, SP 6, ST 36, and ST 44; this is discussed the associated mechanism related to this is through suppression of various orexigenic peptides, enhancement of anorexigenic peptides, suppression of inflammatory factors, and improvement in the balance of pro-oxidants and antioxidants. Portal hypertension is the hallmark in advanced liver disease management. By establishing portal vein access, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has been utilized in various clinical applications. In comparison to standard upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, EUS-Doppler has been shown to be a better modality for detecting esophageal and gastric varices along with peri-esophageal collateral veins, para-esophageal collateral veins, and perforating veins, and may be used to objectively predict the recurrence of bleeding. EUS-guided portal vein catheterization has also been proposed to overcome the limitations of trans-jugular approaches. The combination of EUS-elastography and azygos vein evaluation can also enhance the diagnostic accuracy of each modality. Another well-known implementation of EUS-guided procedures is in the management of ascites; particularly in paracentesis and ascitic fluid analysis. In addition, the most common clinical application of EUS in the treatment of portal hypertension is through vascular therapy or creation of intrahepatic portosystemic shunts. Major drawbacks of EUS mainly revolve around technical difficulties, the high cost of the procedure, as well as the requirement of more studies in humans to evaluate EUS-guided advanced therapeutic modalities in portal hypertension. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine. Portal hypertension (PH) management and loco-regional therapy for HCC have become the cornerstones in advanced liver disease management. Recently, there are studies looking at the potential role of interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in liver diseases. EUS may be useful in vascular changes of the digestive wall evaluation, performing dynamic assessment of hemodynamic changes, predicting variceal bleeding and rebleeding risk, and assessing the pharmacological effects. In PH management, EUS-guided vascular therapy - which revolves around glue injection, endovascular coil placement/embolization, and combination of both - has shown promising results. As a diagnostic modality for liver cancer, the implementation of EUS in liver diseases is currently not only limited to liver biopsy (EUS-LB) but also in shear-wave elastography (SWE) and portal pressure gradient measurement, as well as portal vein sampling. The application of EUS-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) and tumor injection can also overcome the limitations shown by both modalities without EUS. Nevertheless, establishing EUS as a firm diagnostic and therapeutic modality is still challenging since the performance of interventional EUS requires high expertise and adequate facilities. © 2021 Cosmas Rinaldi A. AIM: This literature review will explore the association of lipid and leprosy, as well as the potential of statin and other lipid-lowering agents as adjunctive drugs to combat leprosy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Articles were searched through the PubMed, EBSCOhost, and Google Scholar with the keywords: immunomodulation, lipid-body, lipids, leprosy, Mycobacterium leprae, pathogenesis, rifampin or rifampicin, and statins. A manual searching is also carried out to find an additional relevant information to make this literature review more comprehensive. RESULTS: The literatures showed that lipids are highly correlated with leprosy through alterations in serum lipid profile, metabolism, pathogenesis, and producing oxidative stress. Statins can diminish lipid utilization in the pathogenesis of leprosy and show a mycobactericidal effect by increasing the effectiveness of rifampicin and recover the function of macrophages. In addition, Statins have anti-inflammatory properties which may aid in preventing type I and II reactions in leprosy. Standard multidrug therapy might reduce the efficacy of statins, but the effect is not clinically significant. The statin dose-response curve also allows therapeutic response to be achieved with minimal dose. CONCLUSION: The various pleiotropic effects of statins make it a potential adjunct to standard treatment for leprosy in the future. © 2021 Muhammad Habiburrahman, Haekal Ariq, Shannaz Nadia Yusharyahya. Long-term use of medications available to treat AD today have a variety of side-effects. Acupuncture, as a nonpharmacologic therapeutic modality providing stimulation at acupuncture points, using filiform needles, has been widely tested and used to manage of AD and can be a therapeutic option, considering its effectiveness and lack of side-effects. Methods: This literature review examines the role of acupuncture in AD treatment. Results: Acupuncture can ameliorate AD symptoms through decreasing amyloid-β protein, reducing neuroinflammation, enhancing the antioxidant system, improving neurogenesis, enhancing prosurvival protein, reducing proapoptotic protein, and regulating brain energy metabolism. Conclusions: According to various research findings, acupuncture may be a therapeutic choice for addressing AD that avoids the long-term side-effects caused by medical therapy. © 2021, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers.
