Background: A 70% ethanolic extract of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit seeds contain a certain amount of sulfhydryl active compounds and potential for ameliorated cyclophosphamide side effects. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze of urine 3-hidroxy propil mercapturic acid (3-HPMA) in a rat model for cyclophosphamide-induced hemorrhagic cystitis to determine the effect of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit seeds extract. Materials and methods: The levels of urine 3-hidroxy propil mercapturic acid was measured using LCMS/MS. Urine preparation was carried out by dilution (1:5) with mobile phase and contained a deuteurated internal standard. The LC separation was performed using a C18 column (1.7 μm; 2.1 mm × 100 mm). The mobile phase consisted of formic acid (0.1%) and formic acid (0.1%) in acetonitrile (90:10 v/v), as a starting gradient at flow rate of 0.2 ml/min with total run 7 min. Results: The lower limit of quantification was 40 ng/ml and the linear extended to 20,000 ng/ml. The method has been successfully to be applied in determined of rat urine 3-HPMA. The results showed that the 70% ethanolic extract of seeds can increased the amount of 3-HPMA in rat urine. Conclusion: The 70% ethanolic extract of seeds displayed a potential ameliorating effect against cyclophosphamide side effects. © 2021 Phcogj.Com. |

Objective: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory deficits and other cognitive disorders, which can be accompanied by personality changes. Long-term use of medications available to treat AD today have a variety of side-effects. Acupuncture, as a nonpharmacologic therapeutic modality providing stimulation at acupuncture points, using filiform needles, has been widely tested and used to manage of AD and can be a therapeutic option, considering its effectiveness and lack of side-effects. Methods: This literature review examines the role of acupuncture in AD treatment. Results: Acupuncture can ameliorate AD symptoms through decreasing amyloid-β protein, reducing neuroinflammation, enhancing the antioxidant system, improving neurogenesis, enhancing prosurvival protein, reducing proapoptotic protein, and regulating brain energy metabolism. Conclusions: According to various research findings, acupuncture may be a therapeutic choice for addressing AD that avoids the long-term side-effects caused by medical therapy. © 2021, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers. |

Background: Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a chronic inflammation of the bladder which causes unpleasant sensations. This condition considerably reduces patients’ quality of life. Intravesical hyaluronic acid is one of the new interventions for interstitial cystitis management, in which a thorough review and meta-analysis regarding this topic are still limited. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of intravesical hyaluronic acid with other intravesical treatment modalities available to treat interstitial cystitis. Method: Systematic literature searching with the main keywords of “interstitial cystitis” or “bladder pain syndrome” and “intravesical hyaluronic acid” was conducted. The main outcome of this study was pain assessment using a visual analogue scale (VAS) and Interstitial Cystitis Symptoms Index (ICSI), and problem index (ICPI). Meta-analysis was carried out when comparative studies were available. Eleven studies were obtained to assess intravesical hyaluronic acid’s effects, including three in the meta-analysis. The intravesical treatments found as a comparison were heparin and chondroitin sulphate. Result: There was significant heterogeneity among studies included in all parameters. The pooled analysis showed no significant difference in VAS reduction, improvement of ICSI and ICPI score (p = 0.11, p = 0.35, and p = 0.28, respectively) between hyaluronic acid and other intravesical treatments. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between hyaluronic acid and other intravesical treatments. However, further research with a larger sample is needed to confirm the best modalities in interstitial cystitis. © 2021, Sanglah General Hospital. All rights reserved. |

Introduction: Chronic Plantar Ulcer of Leprosy (CPUL), one of the debilitating disabilities and complications, poses a treatment challenge. Utilization of stem cells, specifically adipocyte-derived mesenchymal stem cells-conditioned medium (ADMSC-CM) and amniotic membrane mesenchymal stem cells-conditioned medium (AMSC-CM), may serve as a novel therapeutic option. This study aims to compare the efficacy of topical ADMSC-CM, topical AMSC-CM, and farmazertin gauze dressing (FGD) only on the healing of CPUL. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, our study recruited 54 subjects with CPUL. Subjects were randomly assigned to topical ADMSC-CM (n = 16), topical AMSC-CM (n = 22), or FGD (n = 16) applied every three days for up to 8 weeks. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 for Windows. Results: Healing percentage increased each week in all groups. Statistic differences between groups (p <0.05) were observed for ulcer mean size and depth reduction from week three onwards. No adverse reactions or complications were reported. At the end of the study, based on clinically improved ulcers, topical ADMSC-CM (100.0%) were superior in improving the healing of CPULs compared to topical AMSC-CM (54.55%) and FGD only (50.0%). Conclusion: ADMSC-CM and AMSC-CM are potential therapeutic agents in the management of CPUL, with ADMSC-CM being superior in overall ulcer improvement. © 2021, Sanglah General Hospital. In hospitals; transferring patients using hospital beds is time consuming and inefficient. Additionally; the task of frequently pushing and pulling beds poses physical injury risks to nurses and caregivers. Motorized hospital beds with holonomic mobility have been previously proposed. However; most such beds come with complex drivetrain which makes them costly and hinders larger‐scale adoption in hospitals. In this study; a motorized hospital bed that utilizes a swerve drive mechanism is proposed. The design takes into account simplicity which would allow for minimum modification of the existing beds. Two DC motors for steering and propulsion are used for a single swerve drive module. The control of the propulsion motor is achieved by a combination of trajectory planning based on quintic polynomials and PID control. Further; the control performance of the proposed bed was evaluated; and the holonomic mobility of its prototype was successfully demonstrated. An average error of less than 3% was obtained for motion with a constant velocity; however; larger values in the range of 15% were observed for other conditions, such as accelerating and decelerating. © 2021 by the authors. Background: Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic inflammation caused by the malignant inflammation response and if not treated, could lead to colorectal cancer. One of the researched treatment is mahkota dewa (Phaleria macrocarpa) leaf extract that has flavonoid compound known to reduce inflammation. This study was aimed to prove that mahkota dewa leaf extract could reduce inflammation of mice colon induced with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) and observe MUC1 expression from colon epithelial crypt of Lieberkuhn. Methods: This was a laboratory experiment using biological material (paraffin block) taken from 28 mice and divided into 5 groups: normal, aspirin, low and high dose mahkota dewa, and negative control. They were processed into immunohistochemistry and stained microscopic slides. Afterwards, they were observed with 400x magnification and 5 field-of-view of mice colon crypt of lieberkuhn. Then MUC1 expression was counted using ImageJ to obtain mean immunohistochemistry score and analyzed with SPSS. Results: There were significant reduction of MUC1 expressions from normal, aspirin, and high dose mahkota dewa groups compared to the negative control group. The result shown MUC1 expression from high dose mahkota dewa (M=149.90,SD=3.81) and aspirin (M=158.92,SD=5.28) were closer to normal group (M=148.02,SD=5.28). There were no significant results between negative (M=175.39,SD=14.30) and low dose mahkota dewa group (M=149.90,SD=5.02). Conclusion: There was a reduction of MUC1 expression in DSS-induced mice colonic epithelial cells for high dose mahkota dewa group. Background: Lunasin Targeted Extract (ET-Lun) has a pharmacology effect in inhibiting inflammation by decreasing COX-2 and iNOS expression. ET-Lun could increase apoptosis and decrease dysplasia (p > 0,05). In addition, ET-Lun could decrease EGFR expression in breast cancer rats. The acute toxicity showed ET-Lun has LD50 more than 5000 mg/kg BW and was practically non-toxic. Objective: this study aimed to determine the subchronic toxicity of ET-Lun. Methods: Male and female Sprague Dawley rats (n=40) were divided into 4 groups, the control group and treatment group ET-Lun dose of 250 mg/Kg BW, 500 mg/kg BW, and 750 mg/kg BW. The ET-Lun was administered for 90 days. On the 91st day, the animals were dissected and examined for SGOT-SGPT levels, liver histopathology, and diameter of the central vein. Results: The SGOT-SGPT levels showed no significant difference between the treatment group and the control group (p > 0.05). On microscopic observation, there was no change or damage to the liver of rats in each group. The diameter of the central vein of the rat liver shows no significant difference between the control and treatment groups. Conclusion: The ET-Lun does not produce adverse effects in liver rats after subchronic treatment. © 2021 Phcogj.Com. |

Malaria still be health problem in the world, especially in Eastern Indonesia. Malaria’s inflammation and metabolism defect can cause colonic damage, such as enhancement Muc-1 protein expression and goblet cells hyperplasia. Sambiloto and spirulina combination as antiinflammatory and antioxidative agent can prevent medial colon damage Plasmodium berghei ANKA infected mice. The aim of the study to show the effect of sambiloto and spirulina combination on Muc-1 protein activity in medial colon Plasmodium berghei ANKA infected mice. This study use preserve male Swiss Webser mice colonic tissue which has inoculated by Plasmodium berghei ANKA, whose treatment group include positive control (dehyroartemisin piperaquine), negative control (carboxymethil cellulose), AP (sambiloto), AP+ES (sambiloto+spirulina extract), and AP+PS (sambiloto+spirulina powder) and terminated after 28 days of treatment. Colonic tissue was stained with immunohistochemistry and observed using light microscope (400x) in five different field and was analyzed with ImageJ® sowtware, and statisitcal analysis was done with SPSS 20.0. According to One Way ANOVA and Duncan posthoc test, only AP+PS(120,98 ±3,37), which significantly difference between negative control, AP, and AP+ES group. Meanwhile, between DHP, AP+PS group not significantly differenece. Background: Myeloid cells express microparticles that could increase the expression of adhesion molecules including P-selectin. We aimed to evaluate the level of soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin) and prothrombin fragment 1 + 2 (F1 + 2), and to determine correlation of sP-selectin with leukocyte count and F1 + 2 levels in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed AML (n = 25), CML (n = 13), and controls (n = 17) were recruited in this study. The diagnosis of AML and CML is based on 2001 WHO and/or FAB criteria. Levels of sP-selectin and F1 + 2 were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits (Behring ELISA Processor-III® and Behring Enzygnost F1 + 2). Results: sP-selectin was significantly elevated in CML patients compared to AML patients (p = 0.001). Levels of F1 + 2 in AML and CML patients were significantly increased in comparison to controls (p < 0.001 and p = 0.043). Levels of sP-selectin were significantly correlated to leukocyte count (r = 0.437; p = 0.029) and F1 + 2 (r = 0.436; p = 0.029) in AML patients. Conclusions: AML and CML patients had an increased tendency to thrombosis. While CML patients had higher platelet and/or endothelial activation, hypercoagulable state are more pronounced in AML patients. © 2021, The Author(s). |

Background: Even though the incidence of H. pylori infection among Malays in the Malay Peninsula is low, we observed a high H. pylori prevalence in Sumatra, which is the main residence of Indonesian Malays. H. pylori prevalence among Indonesian Malay descendants was investigated. Results: Using a combination of five tests, 232 recruited participants were tested for H- pylori and participants were considered positive if at least one test positive. The results showed that the overall H. pylori prevalence was 17.2%. Participants were then categorized into Malay (Aceh, Malay, and Minang), Java (Javanese and Sundanese), Nias, and Bataknese groups. The prevalence of H. pylori was very low among the Malay group (2.8%) and no H. pylori was observed among the Aceh. Similarly, no H. pylori was observed among the Java group. However, the prevalence of H. pylori was high among the Bataknese (52.2%) and moderate among the Nias (6.1%). Multilocus sequence typing showed that H. pylori in Indonesian Malays classified as hpEastAsia with a subpopulation of hspMaori, suggesting that the isolated H. pylori were not a specific Malays H. pylori. Conclusions: Even though the ethnic groups live together as a community, we observed an extremely low H. pylori infection rate among Indonesian Malay descendants with no specific Indonesian Malay H. pylori. The results suggest that H. pylori was not originally among these groups and H. pylori was imported from other ethnic groups. © 2021, The Author(s). |
